"3 Bands, 3 Songs, 3 Bucks"

The 3-Way Singles Club rides back into town -- after an unplanned hiatus that involved an altruistic kidney donation -- with what I can excitedly say is one of our best singles yet!

Casting the net wider to envelop our sister state Wisconsin, Volume 18 includes songs from Pushmi-Pullyu as well as from Surgeons In Heat, a neo-soul band with members in the more indie-folk inclined band Pioneer (who you may remember backing up Jeremy Quentin on the excellent Small Houses rendition of Paleo's song "There, At The Top Of The Stairs," way back in 3WSC Vol. 10. Got that?)

Beginning with the ambient tugs of an alternate, live reading of Pushmi-Pullyu's song "I'm In Love Again," we offer you a glowing lure to pull you into the Motown-drenched depths of Surgeons In Heats "Never Noticed," an absolutely fantastic track that first took flight on their self-titled album back in April but catches a second wind here in time for the Midwest's untimely snow melt. Finishing things off is the debut single from 3 Trains And Me, a collaboration between chthonic-voiced Augustine Jay, Isaac Vander Schuur of The Hat Madder, and John Miller of Narc Out The Reds which mines a muddy blues trench replete with gritty slide guitars and nimble bass.

The prismatic melting graphic that adorns 3-Way Singles Club Vol. 18 is by Pushmi-Pullyu member John Praw, also a visual artist. You can see more of his colorful, immersive work on gig fliers around the Tri-City area...

The last couple months have involved a lot of planning and restructuring, and you can read a lot more about it on the blog at itavrecords.blogspot.com, but in short after a year and a half "experiment" that yielded some wildly successful results but that was also a path strewn with delays and one or two frustrations -- we're changing one of the defining characteristics of the singles series! Rather than releasing 3 songs a month, come hell or high water, and having timing be the determining factor, we're changing the singles club's time scale to a project-by-project one. Expect the same high level of songcraft and the same attitude toward new and experimental approaches, but with the greater quality that a less breathless release schedule will allow. We look forward to bringing you lots more great music!
