about

"3 Bands, 3 Songs, 3 Bucks -- every month!"

We begin year number two of the 3-Way Singles Club with three artists who've indelibly stamped the mid-Michigan independent folk scene that sprouted them, drawing it in rich hues on the national canvas. On the eve of releasing the highly anticipated "Eternity Of Dimming" on Ramseur Records, the third full-length from his main songwriting outlet Frontier Ruckus, singer/guitarist Matthew Milia offers us the sparsely beautiful home recording "Song For Julie," a song which instantly won my heart by rhyming my hometown's name with "shitty." Milia has played occasional solo shows in and around a busy touring schedule with Frontier Ruckus, under his own name and also under the more recent nom de plume, Sylvan Lanes.

Following is the spare electric salvo of "Via The Airways," a comparatively spiky and spritely instrumental by the pastoral standards set on Gifts Or Creatures' 2010 acoustic-dominated full-length "Pilot House." Husband and wife Brandon and Bethany Foote team up with various co-conspirators for an atmospheric take on indie-americana, and "Via The Airways" hints at the palette they'll employ on their follow-up album, which they are currently recording for release on Earthwork Music later in 2012.

Akron, OH-based White Pines orbits around singer and songwriter Joe Scott, and hot on the heels of their brand new (last month!) E.P. "Plume Of Ash," they bring us this full-band reading of "Armor," one of the cornerstone tracks of their full-length album "The Falls," which appeared on Yer Bird Records in 2011.

It is with hushed excitement that we offer up these three songs, which promise impulsive stabbing of the repeat button during the coming summer front porch reveries, tree-lined drives on nameless county roads, and reckless plunges into wooded pools from rope-swings of dubious structural integrity. Here is music to float in mid-air to -- however ephemeral such an experience may be; after letting go of the rope, letting time dilate infinitely into memory.

Thank you for the honor of listening! We look forward to bringing you more new music next month!
